Meta has had some years and build on their software and exclusive games, how does it compare to Sony's limitless experience in gaming? Well for starters

Meta does produce a vr system with great design, it has pancake lenses which limit the visual obstruction of the standard lenses. Meta has a sleek design, and allows for wireless use through their own OS built into the headset.

This works great for games that are lower powered and don't require a lot of umph to use. Additionally, Meta has worked hard to build a great library of games, which does have its benefits, but honestly.. Those benefits of exclusivity tend to ruin gaming for everyone.

Gaming for Meta on a Meta quest? The games that they have been made exclusive are generally games produced by facebook or games which got bought out by Meta to make them exclusive, this means, are you really losing much? Honestly, no, there has yet to be a substantial IP that is great enough of a game to make it be the reason you buy this headset, that is of course as of yet. Maybe Meta will get their breath of the wild moment.

While the screens are LCD, they manage to produce color than most expensive headsets of past. That being said it really differs on the game you are playing and even the PC build you're running it on.

Sony PSVR 2 didn't exactly come out breaking records on sales, however in the last few months they have seen a huge uptick in purchases since bringing their headset to PC compatibility.

Sony's headset has two OLED displays, which most definitely make a huge difference on the colors in comparison to every other headset on the market. They produce beautiful blacks that make darker horror games all the more immersive. Metro: Awakening, a recent VR release as the genre settles into a revival. Had some of the most beautiful scenes you will see in a VR screen. All the most proving Sony's ability to produce fantastic colors and deep blacks, that being said of course  Meta does not manufactuer their own displays, they are made by SHARP, this definitely gives Sony the edge for overall visual experience.

Half-life Alyx, a game which has brought many more into VR is through Valves own "Steam" launcher, meaning you can use any compatible headset  to play it, so ultimately, how does it compare between the two systems?

I am playing on a

I am playing on an AMD 5700x, RTX 4060, 32gb Ram.

Visuals:

Sony, absolutely takes the bag on this one, the OLED display showcases this game the way it was meant to be played, and ultimately making a more fun and immersive experience.

Meta will win on this one as I just couldn't get any bluetooth headset to work while I played on my PSVR2

Meta will win on this one as I just couldn't get any bluetooth headset to work while I played on my PSVR2, this is because their Controllers require to operate at a specific bluetooth rate which frequently cause interference with my PC. And I bought the recommended bluetooth adapter. Ultimately, using my AT M50x wired headphones through my PSVR audio port, it made the experience very uncomfortable when wearing glasses. That being said if you have a nice pair of wired headphones which you feel are comfortable enough it can really go either way.

Issues:

Both headsets use insideout tracking to ensure your dont need silly base stations of VR past, however this means you need to play in a well lit space. Sony's setup process to play half life alyx took me 10 minutes total, whereas the meta headset took me 15 minutes because every time I tried to launch it, I kept getting stuck in meta's own OS. There appears to be a lot of bugs attempting to play some steam games on Meta's system. You really have to work with it to get it to work, whereas Sony's headset does not have a complex OS it is only intended to run directly through your machine.

Overall:

Sony easily takes the bag for Half life Alyx, the best experience you can get with a cheap headset.

Sony VR vs Meta Quest 3
Virtual Reality Comparison.

Sony making the decision to allow the use of their headset on PC was not wholly in mind that it will make them more money, it has the incentive to bring more people to virtual reality. Many people have PSVR2's already, and they also would love to play games that never quite made it to playstation on their 500$ headset. This brings a lot to light, as Sony has only a few exclusive titles, and doesn't appear to be focused on claiming their slice of the ice on this Virtual Reality Iceberg, rather they intend to dig deeper, bring more technology to the space. Meta seemingly has their own incentives which only really push their self narrative of a world where people talk with cartoon avatars probably paying a subscription to do so.
